Frequently asked questions
Berry Street provides a diverse range of programs to around 35,000 people in Victoria each year. Some of our key programs and services are:
- family violence support services
- trauma services, including our Victoria-wide therapeutic service Take Two
- education services, including the Berry Street Education Model and Berry Street School
- out-of-home care including foster care, residential care and kinship care
- parenting and family services.
We want to make sure that children and families receive the support they need before issues spiral out of control, so they can stay safely together where possible. When you raise funds for Berry Street, you’re supporting all this work, helping people who have experienced violence and trauma to recover and reimagine their futures.
There are many ways to raise funds, but we know it can be a bit daunting if you’ve never fundraised before. We’ve created handy ‘how to’ guides’ to help you come up with some ideas. First, check out our Handy How to Guides that will spark some ideas. Second, look at the Fundraiser Toolkit because there are some helpful planning resources that will help you start planning. If you have an idea and need some support, register your idea today and let us know if you’d like some help.
That can sometimes happen, and while it might be a little disappointing, rest assured that any funds you can raise will make a difference. Sometimes, writing a good plan can help you plan effectively, which can make it easier to identify how much you think you’ll raise.
For some fundraising activities, you may need Public Liability Insurance (PLI). For example, organising a sausage sizzle at Bunnings or booking a stall at a market might require PLI. If you think this might be necessary, check with the venue or other organisers. If you are part of a business, school, university or other legal entity, you might be covered by your organisation’s insurance.
Some insurance providers offer low-cost PLI for one-off fundraising events. You may need to pay around $200 as an individual or small group of people*. Search for ‘charity event insurance’ or ‘small event insurance’. If you have questions about this, please get in touch with us.
We can send someone to deliver a talk or presentation, depending on the size of your event. There are several ways we can speak at your event, so let us know if you’d like to book someone to speak.
There are many ways to sell tickets, including directly from your website, at the door, or via one of the ticket platforms such as Humanitix or Trybooking. These platforms allow you to sell tickets without having to pay a subscription fee, and they have reduced ticketing fees for not-for-profits*. We can also support you to sell via a fundraising page. When you register your event, let us know if you’d like to set up a fundraising page.
