Diversity and inclusion
At Berry Street we are working towards being an organisation that is safe, inclusive, and welcoming for everyone. We want to be an organisation where our diversities are celebrated and the needs of our staff and service users are met in a person-centred way.
Belonging Statement
Berry Street’s Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Statement is our commitment to creating an organisation that is safe, welcoming and inclusive for all staff and service users. It’s called a “commitment” because we know we aren’t there yet, but we are determined to have the conversations and do the work to transform our organisation and embed true belonging.
Diversity and Inclusion Framework
The Berry Street Diversity and Inclusion Framework ensures that our commitment to social justice is embedded within our service offerings, operating models and education platforms. This will help us to deliver inclusive, responsive and person-centered services for children, young people and families from diverse communities.
Our framework is a guiding document which aims to raise awareness of the barriers to service access, to improve cultural safety, and to drive the development and delivery of inclusive services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, LGBTIQA+ communities, people with disability and people from multicultural and multifaith communities.
Rainbow Tick accreditation
The Rainbow Tick Accreditation Program is a voluntary program which supports organisations to understand and implement LGBTIQA+ safe and inclusive service delivery.
In July 2021, we achieved our Rainbow Tick Accreditation for our Specialist Family Violence and Restoring Childhood teams. Seeing the tick can reassure LGBTQIA+ service users and staff that we are aware of, responsive to and understanding of their needs.
Berry Street is now working towards Rainbow Tick accreditation for all our services. We are committed to improving our services and our organisation so that it is safe and equitable for everyone.
Access and Inclusion Action Plan
Berry Street’s first Access and Inclusion Plan covers Berry Street staff as well as the children, young people and families who we work with. It is a roadmap for creating a safe, accessible, and welcoming organisation for everyone.
